Inductees to the Blues Hall of Fame at the Newcastle Blues and Rock Club 26th Sept 2014

We had the pleasure of inducting the following into the Blues Hall of Fame!..................

GEORGE SHOVLIN

George has been involved with blues and roots music for 40 years that I know of. He's still organising and running live music nights in the north east of England, mentoring and encouraging musicians of all ages.

George taught many the art of fingerpicked delta blues and he's continuing to bring musicians young and old into the 'blues family'.

Not only is George a fabulous musician in his own right, he is an icon in local blues circles and thoroughly deserves his place in the Blues Hallof Fame.

Thanks for the photo Billy!

GEOFF DOCHERTY

If there ever was a man who should be dubbed the 'music man of the north east' it is Geoff.

He is 'Filmore North' the man who brought Free, Led Zeppelin, Rod Stewart, the Faces, Eric Clapton etc etc to venues in around the north-east. Without Geoff my youth would have been barren!

Not only is Geoff a legendary promoter and manager, he is now a top notch author.

MITCH LADDIE

Mitch is one of the best young talents to emerge in years. He was mentored by Walter Trout who recognised the genius in his playing.

It hasn't been all one way. Mitch plays several charity gigs in his touring schedule amongst which this year was fund raising gigs for Walter Trout.

A very talented young man playing some fantastic blues!

 SEDGEFIELD ROCK & BLUES CLUB

A well established Blues Club in the North-East of England with a great and loyal support staging some of the best blues artists touring the UK today.

Not only do they stage the blues, they also give back to the 'blues family' by sponsoring the Best Album catagory at the British Blues Awards.

John Finlayson

John is a  fabulous photographer capturing some fantastic moments of blues musicians such as Chantel MacGregor, Idle Hands, Jo Harman, Larry Miller and many more. These fantastic shots have been published in on-line and printed media.

Maggie Ross

Unfortunately Maggie is no longer with us. Not only was she a great musician, she also raised many thousands of pounds, mainly for childrens charities, before she was taken away from us.

We award Maggie a postumous induction into the Blues Hall of Fame for her talent and for her humanity.

Monkey Junk

Monkey Junk are a fabulous blues duo playing delta, ragtime and gospel to the delight of their loyal followers.

John Nellist and Andy Turnbull live for the blues! Not only do they perform but they spread the word through their own club - The Monkey Junk Blues Club in Newcastle which is a great nights entertainment!

The Junco Partners

This legendary north-east band celebrate their 50th anniversary this year!

They achieved phenominal local success before hitting the road in the 60's playing alongside the likes of the Who, Rod Stewart and John Mayall. They also backed blues giants Howlin Wolf and Freddy King on international tours.

The band split in the early 70's and individual members of the band went on to play with Lindisfarne, Elkie Brookes, Robert Palmer and Mick Ronson to name a few.

Reformed in 1977 several TV appearances and record releases followed. Still touring and delighting music lovers today, we are delighted to induct them into the Blues Hall of Fame.

Newcastle Blues and Rock Club

Formed less than a year ago by music lover Les Routledge, the club has firmly put itself forward as the venue most blues artists want to play at in the UK.

Les has attracted famous national and international musicicans to grace the clubs stage and delight the stalwart support that pack the club to listen to fantastic music.

We are delighted to stage the Blues Hall of Fame inductions at the Newcastle Blues and Rock Club and very happy indeed to induct the Club as a great Blues Venue.

Burnopfield Unsung Musicians Society

The Burnopfield Unsung Musicians Society was originally started some 8 years ago at the Sun Inn in Burnopfield by Graham Brown and Trevor Sewell and has become one of the most popular jam nights in the North East Of England. The Society moved to The Burton House some years ago and has continued to flourish as a place where musicians of all levels are provided with excellent back line P.A, lights and a fantastic platform to perform The venue is packed every Thursday and is frequented my musicians of all levels. The crowd are a huge part of this musical experience and are extremely loyal in their unflinching support for the B.U.M.S.

The Trevor Sewell Band - our house band for the evening!!

Five times Hollywood Award winner Trevor Sewell will provide the house band for the evening. During the proceedings several of the musicians will join Trevor on stage which will be a tremendous and exciting prospect.

Trevor has just released his new album 'Face to Face LIVE at Capitol Studios, Hollywood' and was this year nominated in three catagories of the British Blues Awards.

Although Trevor was inducted to the Blues Hall of Fame earlier in the year, he received his certificate at this event!

Adam Kennedy

Adam is the tour photographer for Vintage Trouble and has worked at venues such as the O2 London, Madison Square Gardens and Glastonbury.

Adams photos have been extensively published in press such as Classic Rock Blues. Blues in Britain and other media such as ABC network in the USA and his work has been used extensively on posterwork and on-line sites globally.

Adam is the Newcastle Blues Club Official photographer so its apt that he should be inducted at the club where so many of his recent fab photos have been taken!

Barry Robson

Unfortunately Barry passed away on 22nd August 2014. He was true “blues” man who lived and breathed for his music. Performing over a period of 6 decades he enthused and encouraged many a young musician, his own family included, and taught many of the North East's harmonica players.

Barry regularly performed with The Roadrunners, even during his brave battle with cancer not wanting to let people down, drawing strength and comfort from the support and love he received from his family, musicians, friends and fans.

Barry will be very sorely missed by us all but he will never be forgotten. We are honoured to induct Barry into the Blues Hall of Fame for his contribution to the blues as a musician, person and father.
